About
I am a writer, editor, multimedia producer, and communications adviser. My work focuses on sustainable development, conflict, migration, gender, health, and human rights — looking particularly at how research and media can improve lives and promote social justice.
Over the past two decades, I have worked on these issues as a journalist, and as a writer/editor/adviser for civil society organisations and movements, campaign networks, research organisations, and universities.
Much of my work focuses on communicating research — taking complex ideas and communicating them in compelling ways to engage diverse audiences. The overarching idea here is to bridge the gap between research and policy — putting the spotlight on research that can and should underpin robust, evidence-based policies and action at global, national, and local levels.
This work has taken me around the world, including long stints in southern Africa and India. Employers include IPPF, XCEPT, UK Aid, SciDev.Net, Challenge Works (Nesta), the Population Council, Panos Institute Southern Africa, Rutgers International, Chemonics International, the Southern African Centre for Infectious Disease Surveillance, Farm Africa, Countdown 2030 Europe, the Rockefeller Foundation, City of Sanctuary, and Down to Earth magazine at India’s Centre for Science and Environment, among others.
I have a BA in English from the University of Oxford and an MA (Distinction) in African Studies from SOAS, University of London.
